Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for cinnamon sugar topping
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon for cinnamon sugar topping
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted, for brushing on top

Equipment

  • 9x5-inch loaf pan
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray to ensure your bread doesn't stick.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. This ensures even distribution of the leavening agents for a perfect rise.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined to avoid overmixing, which can make the bread tough.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  5. While the bread is still warm, brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Chef's Tips:

• Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful dessert.
Food Safety:
• Ensure eggs are fresh and stored properly to avoid foodborne illness.
• Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
