Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional, for extra richness

Equipment

  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Sifter
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  5. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, use the parchment paper to lift the brownies out of the pan and cut into squares. Serve and enjoy!
