Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened, for filling
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or more as needed for glaze
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract for glaze

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Rolling Pin
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Whisk
  • Sharp knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center.
  3. Pour in buttermilk and melted butter. Stir until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute until smooth.
  5. Roll the dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the edges.
  6. Mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
  7. Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Use a sharp knife to cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place the rolls cut side up in the prepared baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.
  10. Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

Chef's Tips:
• For best results, use room temperature ingredients to ensure even mixing.
• Avoid over-kneading the dough to prevent tough rolls.
• Serve with a cup of coffee or tea for a delightful breakfast treat.
Food Safety:
• Ensure the rolls are baked to an internal temperature of at least 190°F (88°C) to ensure they are fully cooked.
• Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
