Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter melted, divided
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk for icing

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Whisk
  • Sharp knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with some of the melted butter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the buttermilk, sugar, and 3 tablespoons of the melted butter. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute. Roll the dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle.
  4. Spread the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter over the dough. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
  5. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Use a sharp knife to cut the log into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls cut-side up in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. While the rolls are baking, make the icing by whisking together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls before serving.
