Method
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. This step activates the yeast, ensuring your dough rises properly.
- Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until well combined. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. You might not need all the flour, so add it slowly until the dough is no longer sticky.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 3-4 minutes until smooth. Roll the dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered dough. Starting from the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for 20-30 minutes, or until nearly doubled in size. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
Chef's Tips:
• For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of water for the dough.
• Avoid over-kneading the dough to keep the rolls soft and fluffy.
• Serve warm with a cup of coffee or tea for the perfect breakfast treat.
Food Safety:
• Ensure the water and milk are at the correct temperature (110°F) to activate the yeast without killing it.
• Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
