  • 2 lbs ground beef 80/20 blend preferred
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 28 oz
  • 2 cans kidney beans 15 oz each, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can tomato sauce 15 oz
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper adjust for heat preference
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth low-sodium

Equipment

  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring spoons and cups

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
  2. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and tomato sauce. Add chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  4. Pour in beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the chili simmer for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. For best flavor, simmer for 2-3 hours.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Chef's Tips:
• For a thicker chili, simmer uncovered for the last 30 minutes
• Avoid over-stirring to prevent breaking down the beans
• Serve with cornbread for a complete meal
Food Safety:
• Ensure ground beef reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C)
• Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and consume within 3-4 days
