Ingredients

  • 1 pound spaghetti Break in half to fit in pot
  • 1 pound ground beef 85% lean recommended
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce Choose a quality brand
  • 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes Canned, with juice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese Grated, for serving
  • Fresh basil Chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Instant Pot (6-quart or larger)
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Set Instant Pot to sauté mode. Add olive oil and ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until onions are softened.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce, diced tomatoes with their juice, water, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Break spaghetti in half and layer it on top of the sauce, ensuring it's fully submerged. Do not stir.
  5. Close the lid and set the valve to sealing. Cook on high pressure for 8 minutes.
  6. Once cooking is complete, allow a 5-minute natural pressure release, then carefully quick-release the remaining pressure.
  7. Open the lid, stir the spaghetti to combine with the sauce. If the sauce is too thin, let it sit on sauté mode for a few minutes to thicken.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
