Ingredients

  • 1 cup cups unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 2 cups cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup cups chocolate chips optional, for extra richness

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  5. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brownies out of the pan. Cut into squares and serve.
