Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Transfer it to the prepared baking sheet.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet with the onions. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the mushrooms are tender. Season with salt, pepper, and fresh thyme.
- Spread the onion and mushroom mixture evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Sprinkle the shredded Gruyere cheese over the onion and mushroom mixture.
- Brush the edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg to create a golden crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Allow the tart to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Chef's Tips:
• For best results, caramelize the onions slowly over low heat to develop deep flavor.
• Avoid overworking the puff pastry to prevent it from becoming tough.
• Serve with a light salad for a complete meal.
Food Safety:
• Ensure the tart reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) to ensure food safety.
• Store leftovers in the refrigerator within two hours of cooking.
