Ingredients

  • 2 packages cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans for coating
  • 1 carrot carrot for turkey beak and feet
  • 1/4 cup whole black peppercorns for turkey eyes
  • Assorted crackers for serving

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Serving platter
  • Knife

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix until well blended.
  2. Shape the cheese mixture into a ball and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  3. Once the cheese ball is firm, remove it from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Roll the cheese ball in the finely chopped pecans until completely coated.
  4. Place the cheese ball on your serving platter. Use a small piece of carrot to create the turkey's beak and feet. Press two whole black peppercorns into the cheese ball to form the eyes.
  5. Arrange the crackers around the turkey cheese ball and serve immediately, or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Chef's Tips:
• For a smoother texture, let the cream cheese soften at room temperature before mixing.
• Avoid overmixing the cheese mixture to prevent it from becoming too soft and difficult to shape.
• Serve with a variety of crackers and veggies for a more diverse appetizer spread.
Food Safety:
• Keep the cheese ball refrigerated until serving to prevent spoilage.
• Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
