Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 lean preferred
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage mild or hot, casings removed
  • 1/2 cup pepperoni sliced
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can tomato sauce 15 oz
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 14.5 oz, drained
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can refrigerated pizza dough 13.8 oz

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Large skillet
  • Cooking spray
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage until browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, green bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  5. Spread the meat and vegetable mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Layer pepperoni slices over the top.
  6. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese evenly over the pepperoni.
  7. Unroll the pizza dough and place it over the cheese, pressing the edges to seal.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Chef's Tips:
• For a crispier crust, brush the top of the dough with olive oil before baking.
• Avoid overcooking the meat mixture to prevent it from drying out.
• Serve with a side salad for a complete meal.
Food Safety:
• Ensure the internal temperature of the casserole reaches 165°F (74°C) to ensure food safety.
• Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
